Pohoiki

[Darnok]

Any idea what is going on with Pohoiki？$9 million of taxpayers money went down to the drain and no one asked questions? No one is responsible for that mistake? is it normal for people to accept that without any questions?

[ChunksterK]

No offense intended, but how long have you lived in Hawaii? This is typical, and accountability for officials, government contractors, and politicians is virtually unknown.

A candidate for Hawaii House District 4 wrote where we go now with Pohoiki:

Tam Hunt is running as state rep, not county council. I just came from the candidates town hall, which of course devolved into a screaming match from a couple of our local crazies, but I was very impressed with Tam.

The work was performed by licensed contractors operating within the scope of lawfully issued permits, so there's nothing to complain about.

[MyManao]

there's nothing to complain about.

Poor engineering? Unqualified politicians that please constituents of their choosing rather than doing things right for the entire electorate?

[kalianna]

It was essentially a case of "We wonʻt give you the money to do it right, but weʻll offer you this token funding that wonʻt work. Take it or leave it." We took it, the ocean took it back.

I wrote to several representatives suggesting it be turned into a swim area with proper circulation. Seems like that would have been the easiest way to preserve some of the work paid for. Unfortunately, we pay our representatives to accomplish nothing.

Tam will be different.
