I may not have all my facts straight here but I'll try.
I went to a meeting of island film makers recently and I was told that the public access tv channels, with studios in Kona and Hilo, are facing major upheaval. Gov. Lingle is putting the access channels up for bid to commercial or any interests (mainland) which could result in loss of local control of our public access tv.
I do know that the local access studios make everyone's voice available to tv and the studios and editing bays are
available for our young people to learn skills.
Perhaps someone will know more than I about this.
I also learned, to my surprise, that there is a state law which provides for state taxpayers to invest in a "high tech" venture (digital film making) and get a 100% offset on their state taxes. This was portrayed as effectively meaning you can pay your taxes to a local film maker or other tech venture if you so choose. Rare.
