Filming "The Tempest" on Saddle Road
#1
Got caught in one lane traffic on Saddle Road yesterday at the Mauna Kea Access road. They are filming "The Tempest" starring Helen Mirren. Lots of trucks and equipment along the road.

They're also filming on the Red Road from Makenzie to Pohoiki.

We saw them filming on the Saddle Road on Sat. afternoon. LOTS of trucks, vans and equipment. There was even a smoke machine being used.

My misstake....It was Saturday....not Sunday.

They've been at the intersection of 137 and 130 the past 2 days with a helicopter and apparently still have a presence at Pohoiki and MacKenzie.

They will be filming in Hilo Harbor on Tues.
They rented some heavy equipment to pour water from a loader bucket on to the front of a boat to make it look like a wave.
I gotta' tell ya' cha-ching, we named our price and they didn't flinch. Now if I could only get in front of the camera[8D]

Here is a little bit about the movie from Yahoo Movies (sounds like quite a cast!)

Helen Mirren can do very little wrong these days. Since taking home the golden gong for "The Queen", the Academy Award winner is now taking a tilt at Shakespeare! Director Julie Taymor has assembled quite a team to take on the Bard including Dame Helen in a gender-defying role that will see her reigning over the magical island as Prospera in "The Tempest".
Yes, this role was originally written as Prospero, an exiled duke-turned-sorcerer, yet Taymor has rechristened the lead character so that Mirren can take on the role - now that's what I call pandering to your cast!

Mirren will be in fine company with Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Ben Wishaw (in this week's "Brideshead Revisited") and Felicity Jones. Geoffrey Rush is also in negotiations to join the cast.
Shakespeare's play is a heady mix of romance with fraternal politics and the supernatural. As revised for the screen, it will focus on Prospera, her daughter Miranda (Jones) and a shipwrecked crew full of Prospera's enemies.
On the good ship of hate are rising comedy star Brand, playing Trinculo, a jester; Irons, as Alonso, the King of Naples; and Molina as the drunken butler Stephano. Rush would play Gonzalo, a royal adviser and old ally of Prospera's.
