How much Rain???
#1
Our home rain gauge in Keeau downtown got 8" from yesterday (noonish) until this morning 8am.... (almost to the top! when we got this gauge I never thought that I would see topped in less than a day!)
I pray that all are safe & dry
We toured the Keaau/Hilo area & saw very little flooding, a few intermittent streams that were raging, PKP mall parking lot "Stairs" were joyously overflowing & such, but nothing like you would expect from the rains we had last night!

We got a few showers at Waikoloa Beach yesterday and last night and intermittent light showers today till noon. Could see a nice coating of fresh snow pretty far down Mauna Kea today. Its a white and wet Christmas. I'm in Hilo now. If it clears up on the east side I'll try to put together a youtube video.

Oink, it is dark now, but when we were out this morning, I would have only trusted my underwater camera, and it is not a digital : (
The water was flowing in all streams & most not-really-a-stream places. We have had flash flood alerts on & off for the last 24 hrs... but from what we have seen, they are quick flash (when it is really wailing rain) followed by hours of just steady boring rain while everything kinda dewaters a little, then another torrent will come through that will get things to the overflow point, then back down....

It will be interesting to see how things are over the next few days, as this storm is not going anywhere fast, & will probably be here over the weekend...

We took a drive to Hilo, the staircase by the mall had the waterfall affect. We took a drive down by Bayfront and the Road was closed due to flooding, in the soccer/football field it was just below knee high. We are in the Eden Roc Subdivision and we have many streams and ponding. Especially the "Frog Pond" on the first bend coming into the subdivision. It was reported that Mountain View received just aout 12 inches in 12 hours ending at 6pm this evening. Much more rain and lightening still continuing.

Does anyone know where to find current total rainfall updates on The Big Island?

Please Drive Safe and Cautious!

It is now OVER 2 hours of a steady DOWNPOUR in HPP at the bottom of Makuu! A flash of lightning and a bang of thunder every now and then. One skylight sprung a leak/drip - a small lake is forming in the driveway and starting to extend under the house. A lot of "stuff" under the house that I wish was on pallets! I need to wait for daylight to assess the damage.
Pretty and Amazing!
