I caught this about a month ago and wondered what realtor in Puna drives a convertible mustang LOL. I felt the show was fraught with inaccuracies. Still I showed it to some friends (I recorded it on Tivo) and they were ready to pack up and move right then and there. I would have chosen (of the three) house number 2.

I'm trying to watch that episode on line.
Does anyone know the actual name of it? Mahalo

It's called "Buying a Home in Hawaii" on my DVR recording.
Where was that second house, the one supposedly in Pahoa yet magically across the road from the ocean? We did a double-take when we saw that episode (thanks for the notice!) as we've met those guys and they do indeed live in the house that they picked in the show. But they're not "10 minutes from the ocean"! ETA: Original air date 13 Jan 2010 and credits say it was made in 2009

I believe the second home was in Hawaiian Beaches. That is the one that we thought they should have chosen also. But, it looks like they are having fun landscaping their new place. Wishing them much happiness and lots of aloha in their new home.

I thought it was amusing that they were both so obsessed with the undesirability of the water catchment tank at the first house in Fern Acres.

I know the realtor, Sherrill. We were in a writing group together. She’s a nice lady, lives here in HPP. Don’t know where she got that car though.
use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

Sue Nomie, the episode is # HNT-3913H its scheduled to broadcast again on March 6.
I agree with Blakeboy about the inaccuracies, realtor told them Fern Acres was in Lava Zone 2, and they would pay extra for insurance? I’m pretty sure it’s in Zone 3. I would be thrilled to own any of the 3 houses, my favorite was #2, but probably would have picked #3 because the cost.

****Thread hijack WARNING****
I wonder when "This Old House" will come back to Hawaii? The one I remember was in 1994 (Honolulu bungalow) ****Hijack stop**** I picked #2 also.

The dirty little secret of this episode is that some of the original footage was unusable, so much of the episode was filmed after the winning" house had been chosen. Next time you watch it, keep an eye on the guys hair length, for example. The runner-up houses were different than the original other home choices, but fortunately the guys still liked their home choice the best. This might explain why there was some erroneous info in the show. They may have been trying to talk about the unique challenges to buying a home in Hawaii (lava zones, tsunami insurance, etc.), but the homes that fit the buyers' criteria didn't offer the right set of challenges.
