i cant imagine any reason to vote for someone who QUIT his job that cost the taxpayers alot of money for special elections. if you cant finish a commitment you made to the voters why in the world would we put him in another postion. i am always amazed by the voting public however, so time will tell.....

This is, indeed, a relevant comment.
Mr Abercrombie has resigned from Congress to run for Governor and (it is anticipated) Mr Hanneman will resign from Mayor of Honolulu to run for Governor. So, according to lquade's assessment, neither of these would get the vote.

While I understand lqade's viewpoint and fully respect a person's reasoning as an individual right, reality might require me to use other means of assessment to decide who to vote for in this election.

Reality might require some of us to consider voting for a Republican or Libertarian in the Governor's race. Hanneman and Abercrombie are both aligned with the same entrenched interests that are holding on to the dysfunctional status quo of Hawaii politics at all costs. I don't really like Duke Ainoa, the likely Republican nominee, because of his stance on Civil Unions, but I'm not a one-issue voter. Maybe the Libertarians will field an interesting candidate.

I totally agree. The state is in dire financial troubles and Abercrombie has cost the taxpayers One Million dollars to hold a special election to replace him.

I agree with you but not for the same reason. I think Abercrombie should have stuck out the health care vote.

Hawaii has a weird election law that you cant be in an office and be a canadate for a difffrent one even if the terms dont overlap. it causes these special election hassles. No place else that i know of does this

Reading this article leads me to believe that Abercrombie did not have to resign and Hanneman will have to when he declares.

Better to resign than continue taking a salary while campaigning, like our last two presidential candidates, right?

when it really comes down to it, it will really be a three way race with abercrombe, hanneman and aiona for the governors race...i went to listen today to abercrombe with an open mind and i think he is very approachable and is a visionary. i doubt that the other two candidates would even take the time to visit the puna area to visit and give canned speaches and from what i heard with abercrombe it was heartfelt and not canned.
