Lamont Adventures
#1
Aloha everyone. Just a note to let everyon know, in case you haven't already heard, that the Lamont Ranch is alive and kicking. We have some awesome stuff going in the new greenhouse thanks to Jennifer, my cabin tennant. However, we also lost the entire coffee field. Not to be daunted by problems, I am already working on preparing to replant the coffee orchard. Also, a well meaning friend got a little enthusiastic with the tractor/mower and took out over a dozen small fruit trees in the fruit orchard, so if anyone has seedlings of mountain apple, plum , star apple, avocado, acerola cherry, and any other interesting fruit that can grow at the 2500 ft elevation.... I would love them. I also have a lot of surinam cherry and red ti to share if anyone wants them.

Any seeds you have we would love to try to propigate. Growing is such an adventure.

Mahalo and Aloha.
Happy Turkey Day Everyone!!!

Aloha, Pam. Glad to hear that things are still kicking up at the Ranch. Sorry about the coffee, though. What happened, if I may ask? I have a friend trying to do coffee on this side, and would like to make him aware of anything that can take out a whole field. Wish I had fruit saplings to share, but we are still starting our own orchard.

Cheers,
Jerry

Jer.... my mistake was in drainage. We thought we had enough when we dug 3 feet, layered 6 inches of manure, then six inches of black cinder, the soil for 24 inches, then some peat moss and the tree.

This time we will re-dig ther holes (all that great aged manure is in there), put in a full foot of gravel for drainage, a full foot of cinder mixed with peat moss and plant each tree in the peat and cinder mix.

Fortunately we laid out the original trees on a very carefully measured grid with a tree every 10 feet so we can easily locate the holes. The auger on the tractor will open each one up... just labor labor labor.

So, short story is that drainage is the issue. WE have a slight hillside so this should work. Wish us luck!

Aloha... and anyone with other hints or ideas, we welcome them.

Pam ?? is anything ever easy for you ?? This is just one trial after another. When it all gets too koo-koo and it seems to be slipping out from under you, take a walk from the sea horse,,,down the gravel road.....make the bend and look at that house. Walk up the stairs and grab a seat...You Did it ...
Nate,
Much Peace...
P.S. I'm getting a new glass grinder so I'll get to start work on a peice for the "Ranch". Cant wait to see you folks in early "07. hope my palm trees made it "fingers crossed"

Pam,

We have 30 or so coffee seedlings left over from what I planted out. These are not the best, but most of them would probably make it.

Give me a call.
