Having seen Faye Hanohano at a forum during the last election cycle, I can honestly say that she doesn't do well in them. Of course, the reason she doesn't do well is because it is very hard to defend a record like hers. Faye has taken a passive approach to representing a neglected district, and that just doesn't work. She is counting on her union and family connections to get re-elected, and that worked last time. I support Anthony Marzi, and if he doesn't win the Democratic primary, I will be voting for Marlene Hapai, the Republican, in the general election

Reflecting on it a bit I have to say that Faye, by not responding to the invitation or showing up, took a step beyond lazy and was downright rude. A lot of her constituents worked hard to put this OPPORTUNITY before her and she couldn't even call and make an excuse.
I have had quite enough of Faye Hanohano. She is a waste of taxpayers money and a disservice to the district.

When Tiffany first announced this debate, she said she would use a Gong Show format. I cringed. Not only because it doesn't take the issues seriously, but because it is embarrassing and disrespectful Why should ANY candidate want to participate? I sure wouldn't if I were running. I'm surprised she got as good a turnout as she did.

It may be that Faye did not like the proposed format but my mother always says a polite "No, and thank you for the invitation" is a good response to something you rather not do whether it is another baby shower or a invitation to a debate.

Aloha All,
I just got to this thread. I'd like to speak to this topic. I was sitting in the Council Room during the last session and received an email on my blackberry that Faye's office sent to Tiffany. Faye's office said they'd not been made aware of the event and Faye had other obligations but would try to make the event if she could. I responded back to Tiffany that Faye's office was in fact contacted along with the other 3 candidates who all managed to be present. In fact, because Faye had not responded directly to me I sent a second reminder. However, I also did not get a direct confirmation from Solomon Singer either but learned that he had RSVP'd to Tiffany so I thought it might well be that Faye did as well. So, there is a bit of confusion...according to Faye's office, she did not get an invite. I know she did, which is why they responded eventually ... due to the second notice...and the other part of that communique from Faye's office was that she had another obligation that morning, but would try to make the Akebono Forum. As to the Gong Show Format...initially that was a huge concern of people, candidates. However, this event was carefully planned with concerted effort to maximize the benefit to all, the candidates, the community and and ultimately the voters of Puna. I think Tiffany did and continues to do an outstanding job at trying to give the voting community the biggest opportunity for an informed vote. Those who could not make it to Akebono have several other forums to attend and I am guessing Malama O Puna's 2 week event will be well attended. I just wanted to put this information out there. I don't know who pulls Faye's email and responds but my experience has been it is not Faye and it is usually with great delay but they claim they did not know about the event. I was the responsible party for notifying the 4 House Rep Candidates. “A penny saved is a government oversight.”
