Kau Community Development Plan status?
#1
I was doing some reading at www.kauform.com on the KCDP and was surprised to read what appears to be discussion of the Kau CDP being lost in the shadows of the Planning Department.

From this site page the following was posted by member ellenbabette and the Ron referred to would be Ron Whitmore of the Planning Department:

I got the following email from Ron today. It's really a non-answer, unfortunately.

"I'm frustrated and embarrassed with the delays and inability to provide any concrete information/updates. We've been in the same post-charrette mode of crafting a draft CDP since late last year. I keep expecting that I'll have an update that includes a timeline for presenting and reviewing a draft, but I don't want to do that until I have a draft CDP in hand that I think merits public review, and it's been a struggle to get there. I still hope to have an update and Steering Committee meeting before the end of the year, but I can't make any promises. Thank you for your continued interest and patience.

Though I realize that I may not have much credibility left, I would like to emphasize that the delays have everything to do with the County making sure that Ka`u gets the high-quality plan that it needs and deserves -- and absolutely nothing to do with anyone (including anyone in the County, landowners, etc.) maneuvering to influence the content of the plan.

Thanks,
Ron"

Do we have any readers that can inform us as to the progress to date on the KCDP?
Assume the best and ask questions.

The KCDP Steering Committee meetings were to have resumed on Nov. 9th. Flyers were sent out in the Ka`u Calendar with this announcement, along with a change of meeting venue. Evidently, the usual SC meeting place was reserved for that night. No big deal...except that it was reserved by the County for the Kamaoa Road meeting! For some reason, it appears that the County didn't think that the community would care, but they did and the SC meeting has been rescheduled for Dec.14. The purpose of this meeting will be to update everyone on the KCDP status and to answer the commmunity's questions....or at least that is the hope.

Word has it that the meeting was purposefully scheduled for Nov. 9th to coincide with the Kamaoa Rd. hearing. They had to change the date upon much protests. Why???
