Lots of businesses have soft openings.
Soft openings typically aren't announced in the newspaper.
they probably have more essential items in stock
Essential is in the eye of the beer holder. I'm holding out for the growler fills, not the toilet paper selection.

All right. So maybe like the tofu I just bought, their opening wasn’t soft or firm, but medium firm.

This store is amazing.
Everything was fully stocked and there was room at the bar to have a cold beer while they fill your growler.
The only price comparison I made with certainty was the salt and vinegar chicken wings at the deli. They were $1.00 per pound less than Safeway and better tasting.
The store was full but not as crowded as Safeway and the checkout lines were shorter.
Best part is not having to drive to Hilo and having a traffic light to get out of the parking lot.

OK... I'm impressed. Took advantage of the GROWLER special at the bar. 32 oz California Sean Minor Pinot Noir "GROWLER" for 6 dollars which we took home with us. Wine selection was large and much more variety than what you see all the time in Hilo. And the selection of produce, meat and fish was excellent. They have their own bakery, sandwich station, sushi station, hot food selections etc. They even have a garden section. Price wise it was as expected....just like in the old Malama market (except for the specials). Lines were long but moving quickly. All in all...you should check it out if you haven't yet. You may find some things that are worth paying the extra few bucks.

I found a bottle of Kapena Hawaiian chili infused tequila and a large package of Spanish chorizo. It's like pepperoni.
I had to come home and Google it but it's very tasty.
This is the best supermarket on this side of the island.

I will check it out; new bar and deli sound nice! (But I reserve the right to be humbug about the commodity pricing.

The new Malama Market had everything I needed and the produce section was full and beautiful. However, the aisles don't have signs to tell you where things are, so the employees had to spend the day showing people around. Also, the parking lot is WAY too small.

Unpossible! There are zoning requirements, so clearly the parking lot must be adequate! County is never wrong!

I went back today early and wandered the aisles to acquaint myself with where everything is located. People are wandering around like it's an amusement park.
The parking was fine even yesterday. Just not close by the front door.
Way better than parking at walmart/safeway/target Et Al.
