I don't really know how this IP stuff works but it seems analogous to other people in the same household sharing a mailbox.

Ive seen you use vernacular that was like pogs, and vernacular of glinda, Does not mean that your also a sock puppet? no. I get the idea behind back in the day before spell check and auto correct you might be able to see where certain traits of certain authors are unique but these days its almost homogeneous. Unless you can see posters IP matching its a lot of assuming.

How about when people admit they're sock puppets? My Manao has done that - he's posted here with various names. We also have a current poster that admits to trolling. On the other hand, when you have a new sock puppet who immediately appeals to Rob, just like all his socks have done in the past, it's not much of a challenge to figure things out.

Most people here are secure enough to use their identity year after year. One or two others are unable to be that secure because they post things that are so out of order they either get banned or delete their posts and rejoin with a new username.

It doesn't need much assuming, the sock puppets give themselves away all the time and often they admit to it. There's a long history of sock puppets on Usenet and the internet and they always give themselves away because they either refer to something another of their socks posted, post the same crap they always posted, immediately refer to the admin as if they've known them for years, attack the same people hey always attacked before and even if they are new, somehow know the history even if it was from years ago.

Nothing to do with assuming, it's cold hard evidence.
