Concrete slab technology

I think properly stained and sealed concrete floors look great, and it's permanent. It's a lot cheaper to do it with virgin concrete.

We recently stayed with friends in HPP who built metal dwellings with sealed cement floors.  They are gorgeous.  It was the first element that caught my attention when I walked in.  Durable and easy care.  We are developing a simple sustainable place in HPP over the next year and plan on metal construction with concrete floors.  Aloha!  JoJo

How do you deal with cracks on a stained concrete floor?

Best method is to use control joints.

Yes, ALL concrete cracks. That's why they put in those joints/grooves. It controls and directs the cracks. I hadn't realized that until I researched it.

What color and pattern was the floor/stain?

I have taken a class in the concrete staining technology, years ago, and I have seen what is possible:  it’s a true art form!  The materials and labor involved are not necessarily cheap, however.  Ceramic Tile has gotten dirt cheap.  They aren’t complete substitutes, however.

I am thinking the same thing.  I think we should start a separate thread or topic on sustainable building and living.  Seriously.

The color of the concrete is natural, dark gray with very nice texturing.  Unfortunately the guy who did the work I saw moved to Spain.  I will meet with my project manager in a few weeks and I will post any new info that I discover

Sorry everyone. I am new here and not exactly sure how to post in a thread! I am very interested in the building topics. I have been a fan of Punaweb since 2018 when I joined to follow the news on the Kilauea eruption. Mahalo, JoJo
