Julieweb is just one giant Bicker Board now. Hate, anger, and long winded histrionic posts ad nauseam. It helps a little if you put her on ignore but she posts after nearly every other post so it still seeps through no matter what you do. Two vacations led to temporary reform and improvement but she is who she is and she is Punaweb. I wish you all the best.
Even with two vacations, she is rapidly nearing 5 posts per day, average, for her all of 10 months supposedly here.

1.25% doesn't seem to be a drastic downsizing?
Probably looms large if YOU are one of the 1.25% and you have a mortgage or rent to pay on the 1st.
BTW, what is the 1.25% based on?

He took the 5 laid off workers and divided it by the 400 laid off U.S. Game & Wildlife workers.

Going out on a limb here, but maybe math is not your strong point?
ETA: I made this post in the Politics Forum, but I'd love to discuss the impacts of this cut too!

So FWS has about 8000 employees and 400 were fired with only 5 of those in Hawaii. these were all probationary employees/newbies.
So they fired 5% of their total more or less. A typical corporate reduction is generally 5-10%.

The constraints placed on us make this myopic thread all broken eggs and no omelette.

"So they fired 5% of their total more or less. A typical corporate reduction is generally 5-10%."
And that could be a tolerable number depending on the circumstances and it's a nationwide number.
The point being, and of what this thread is, is the impacts to the Big Island specifically, and the fact remains that this lay off laid off 50% of the workforce at the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge.
Would you be happy if we fired 50% of the 2 pilots in the cockpit?

A typical corporation is not the size of the federal government, so a typical corporation will not have the impact on businesses, contractors, unemployment statistics, applications for limited job openings, no medical insurance, etc.
It’s not over yet. I have no problem with reducing the government work force. I do have a problem if it’s enacted stupidly by putting unqualified inexperienced egoists in charge.

Wearing "cool" sunglasses too nonetheless!

Isn't being myopic sometimes in the eye of the beholder?
And eggs are way too damn expensive. Still.

The unqualified experienced egoists could and would never get it done. Now it's getting done. With not a moment to spare.
ETA: As I informed in my signature line a week or so ago, Bill Clinton some 3+ decades ago did the same thing in his own way. I lauded the Democrat president here on PW for doing so. Of course, for much of what they said in those days, both he and Hillary would be called Nazi's here on extremist PW these days. He drastically cut back welfare benefits though and people here on the Big Island were absolutely reeling from the pain of losing the sugar economy and then having their support net ripped away by Clinton, back to back. There were foreclosures here, everywhere. In the words of The Great Patricia, know your history.
PS: That's a neat trick M2 how you can make your partisan, deleted post disappear when the rest of us have to leave ours there in the blank space of shame. Don't you have a personal handle you can use to post left wing conspiracy theories? Do you want to have credibility?
I wish you all the best

So then why say “ could and would never get it done.” If it has been accomplished in the past?
