So this thread is about the challenges of a super-aged population in Hawaii and whether there are enough younger workers to fill the jobs needed as people age out. Some of those jobs include political ones, like Ed Case's.
Tang - Oh boy, The Yakster gets very excited when folks say "they".
Guilty as charged - big fan of pronouns and their proper use. As those super-aged socialist hippies like to say "I am he (John 18:6), as you are he, as you are me, and we are all together." (John/Paul 1967:11-24)
randomq - make it cheaper and easier to get an ID, and then require an ID.
In a country with a history of using poll taxes (including here in Hawaii), sometimes as a selective barrier to voting, any required fee that restricts people from casting a vote is both undemocratic and possibly unconstitutional (per the 24th Amendment for those that still care about such things).
Every state has a free process for registering to vote, and research has shown that votes cast by ineligible voters are exceedingly rare, so this is a supposed fix prompted by trying to appease unsupported paranoid delusions (like the tampered voting machines, and bamboo paper ballots, and on and on, without end).
As Edge said "the fraudulent voter is a boogie man for conservative tv horror news. Scary, but if you check the statistics in the closet or under the bed there’s nothing there." But what if the boogie man is invisible? Or able to shape shift into a gecko? Or made entirely of shrimp and able to carve amazing pieces of art to hide behind?
All the while ignoring very real, sworn under oath, primary evidence of the residence of an illegal voter - Tulsi, Tulsi, Tulsi! Talk about cursed idols... (sorry, struggling to find Hawaii references for the super-aged
Thanks that is much to ponder.

Methinks, no one over 65, at the time of being sworn in for office, should be qualified to be a political candidate..
Like I said, create an emeritus status for old advisers, but stop with the notion of politicians being viable into old age.. we don't let anyone else go on like that.. why should we our political leaders?
What thinkest thou is too old to post on Punaweb where all of the really important decisions are made?

She's lying, if not in a strict legal sense then certainly in the spirit. WTF does "homestead" mean, anyway? And the reason give for obtaining the exemption, to protect privacy, also appears to be BS. After all, there is an internet photo of the house she bought in Leander, Texas. Lowering property taxes? Huh, never thought of that! The final affront was threatening CNN with a lawsuit for exposing this story. Tulsi, you're a real bum!
Gabbard's political career in Hawaii is over. Perhaps she can get some mileage out of it in Texas after her current stint in the Trump administration expires.
After retirement she can eventually return to Hawaii as a persona non grata X2, political opportunist turncoat and also super aged.

Tulsi is young and beautiful and y'all are just jealous and doing that thing you do to everyone who gains their senses and leaves the plantation. Go Ed & Tulsi!

I would watch her in a remake of Clueless - Hawaii. Where she can’t decide what flavor of shave ice to order at the shake shack (a running gag), the requisite Gidget Tulsi at the beach where she hops on a surfboard and attractively wipes out, does the hula - - 90 minutes may not be enough. Maybe a 10 episode Netflix series?
I’d have to agree she’s qualified for that.

What on earth are you talking about? First, it was sterilizing a particular group of people; now you're hinting we should cull people of a certain age.

He meant an age limit for the job, not euthanasia beyond that point!
I'm afraid that the demographic trend won't allow us to be so picky in most cases. Commercial airline pilots age out at 65 and that's probably a good thing. Can anyone think of other professions they would prefer not to see a geezer working in?

You know, Tom, awhile back, something like ten years ago, a dear friend started showing signs of early dementia, and we, our ohana, were shocked. And, being of a similar age, concerned about the same happening to us. And, I, because of other ongoing concerns, was regularly doing time with my PCP, and asked her, how would I know if such a thing was happening to me? Her answer was interesting in itself.. she said.. you won’t know. People that lose their mental acuity do not notice its loss and exhibit no concern about it. In other words she said.. because I was asking was a good sign of my not being so afflicted.
I thought that was an interesting answer..
Maybe you should consider asking your doctor about it Tom..
Or, of course, you can ignore the signs and go blissfully on with your hobby of chasing charlatans, idiots, and scam artists..

Well, Wild in the Streets (1968) (available here) was certainly wild - Mr Smith Goes to Washington meets Willy Wonka meets Ken Kesey's Koramatsu, a Oscar nominee (for editing) with a back-beat by Richard Pryor. Funny enough, even in this Blue-Boy, youth psychedelia, alt reality, Hawaii still won't elect a Republican president - there are limits as to what the audience will believe! (Hard to buy into the groove though with the shadow of the DNC in Chicago, Nixon, Altamont, and Manson hanging just around the historical corner.)
Who (other than themselves at an younger age) says the elderly should be humanely euthanized and turned into a Soy-like protein rich paste, lent to the masses, as a Green initiative? They still have some value at least for their unique movie recommendations - thanks for sharing!

I know what he meant. I wasn't talking about euthanasia, either. One definition of cull is "something rejected especially as being inferior or worthless," e.g., https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cull. Putting that together with wanting to sterilize a bunch of US citizens who have different views from him leaves one with the impression that he supports some very extreme beliefs. Do I have to mention again that he wants thieves hanged? Pilots having to retire at 65 is a complete red herring. Reaching that age doesn't mean your mind breaks down; it's an arbitrary limit.

Thanks. It's been a hobby of mine for nearly 40 years, and I've learned a lot. You aren't unique among those I've encountered; there's always this tendency to use sock puppets and pretend to be someone they aren't. In the meantime, even though I don't need it, thanks for your permission to continue with one of my hobbies.
