Just a quick shout out to the thousands who showed up for the Hand's Off protests in Hilo, and elsewhere on-island and across the state! Nice to see the solidarity between Veterans against Trump, WOKE (Whatever Offends Klansmen Easily), Dogs against DOGE (Damaging Our Good Economy), and Penguins Against Tariffs. Going to be interesting to see where this momentum goes especially as the reality of the ongoing bad government choices crashes through the lies and empty promises.

Thank goodness all of The Big Islands infectious disease experts have now moved on to become authorities on economics and foreign relations. Such momentum.
I wish you all the best

authorities on economics and foreign relations
Probably more qualified than people with no training whatsoever in those fields running departments. WWF? More like WTF.
the reality of the ongoing bad government choices
Bad government choices hit especially hard in a poor district like Puna, or an area with a large number of ongoing scientific research facilities like Big Island, or places with middle class taxpayers like HPP and Hilo where a minuscule tax break is offered hoping residents don’t notice trillions of $ is going to billionaires. Unfortunately for the bad government planners many of us can count, as can be seen by the numbers who showed up on the streets yesterday.

Hoping, as an authority on economics and foreign relations, that you have large investments in the current stock market. Also, as an expert, I hope you'll enjoy paying the tariffs passed on to you by foreign corporations on all your future purchases!
We Big Island infectious disease experts wash our hands regularly and care about the health and well being of our community by getting vaccinated and boosted. You seem the type to care about only your own well being. Mmmmbye Tangy

HOTPE - Unfortunately for the bad government planners many of us can count, as can be seen by the numbers who showed up on the streets yesterday.
Yeah, not sure counting or proper math was a big part of the government's (concept of a) plan, so it makes the mistakes all the easier to tally. With expertise like this, who needs idiocracy?
Adding to the count, hundreds have also been showing up for the Tesla Takedown protests in Honolulu.
https://www.staradvertiser.com/2025/04/0...-protests/
"The evening protests, ongoing since early March along Kalakaua Avenue at the International Market Place, call for people to target Musk’s finances by trading in their Teslas, divesting their Tesla stock and deleting their X accounts.
The largest local rally, which drew about 200 to Waikiki on March 30, was part of a global “Tesla Takedown” movement that claims “hurting Tesla is stopping Musk” and that “stopping Musk will help save lives.”
On a global scale, it appears to be having an impact as Tesla’s quarterly sales plunged 13%, its worst quarter in nearly three years." (more at link)

Really don't have to be an expert, just have basic literacy. (It's "Big Island 's" with the possessive apostrophe by the way ;)
You throw a tantrum almost as well as my toddlers did. Maybe you just need a snack and some Curious George time? It's got some ukulele riffs, and Hawaii locals being nice to a monkey, so should be right up your alley (but, to be fair, George is actually curious to learn, YMMV).

Hahaha you kill me Yak. God Bless you for the humor even if unintended.
Your thread is a tantrum about tantrums peppered with bobbing, nodding, tantrum head comments from incurious people and yet my two sentence, calm observation is a tantrum. You are the master of Saul Alinsky's accusing your enemy of what you are doing to create confusion. Or just a really huge lack of self awareness. Either way, bravo. Love it and we hope that you and everyone who aligns with you will continue to know it all and lecture others with your condescending, incurious tantrums as you are rapidly turning an entire new generation of voters in the right and opposite direction. You are the best marketing we could ever hope for and it's free. YMMV. Carry on please. Please and thank you. Aloha.
I wish you all the best

Hey, nice thread, ironyak!
Hopefully someone will post schedules here for future events in advance so the lazier.. less informed.. of us will be encouraged to join in. And, hopefully.. this will go on and grow.
Although, as was the the efforts of the SDS in our youth, who did organize and get massive turnouts repeatedly.. especially for the times.. it is important to note that it was not our marching in the streets that brought down the Vietnam debacle, but rather Hồ Chí Minh with the backing of Mao Zedong that put an end to that chapter of America's insanity.
I've been thinking of what would be the equivalent today, and marching, waving signs and all that, while good for a soundbite, I don't think they are going to move this monster. Seriously, how many millions would it take? Methinks we're heading towards national work stoppages. Full on walkouts.. shut the country down.. to stop the madness as it is right now..
In other words, without consequences... we'll get zip.

Yeah ironyak. Your liberal, empathetic "tantrums" will definitely sway voters as much or even more than if those selfsame voters lost a collective 3 trillion dollars and hundreds of thousands of jobs. Some of it right here in Puna. I know because I’ve checked my 401K. I’m waiting for reports of people in our district eating the cats and eating the dogs. For real this time.

For news of future protests go to https://indivisiblehawaii.org/chapters/
Interestingly enough, there is no Hilo chapter listed. Just Kailua, Volcano, Ka'u and Waimea.
You can also receive notices about events by joining their mailing list: https://indivisiblehawaii.us3.list-manag...3970ba0b46&id=f50b79a94d
Certainty will be the death of us.

First, thanks to all that made the time and the effort to help our voices be heard.
There were many signs carried by many people on Saturday that supported education in general, and libraries in particular. The federal total cut of $ to the Institute of Museum and Library Services directly affects all three Puna libraries - Pahoa, Kea'au and Mt. View. While we have the only state-wide system that is funded by income taxes ( rather than property taxes as in other places ), the $1.2 million loss as a result of the elimination of all grants will have impacts on centralized services ( e-books and audio books, so useful in our rural communities ), and will impact the Summer Reading Program for children in ways that are still being determined.
While there are law suits being filed on the federal level to restore the monies that have been cut, court cases take time. Please contact your state people ( Iligan, San Buenaventura, Todd, and Green ) to support bridge funding in the interim . Thanks.
