It is my understanding that the "used steam" is re-injected near where it was sourced. I could not find the depth but an email to Puna Geothermal would probably give you the answer. Since it is below the water table I do not see how it can effect the water quality. I am pretty sure that things like papaya farming and cesspools have a much more detrimental effect.

"Used" steam is called condensate, and the water used to make the steam is treated with some pretty nasty chemicals to prevent corosion of the heat exchangers. I would be asking what those chemicals are and make the Water Board test for them. Also, a disclosure....I own HELCO and PGV stock. But I would find if they remove the chemicals from the condensate they reinject back into the earth, since some of the chemicals used in steam production are lighter than water they would naturally come "up" and maybe to the level of your wells.
I can get very specific if anybody will provide me with some more information, since I am planning to move to Puna soon (Probably Leilani Estates) I am extremely interested in the Puna water quality. I also spent my career as an engineering tech (electrical), but worked in power plants and know the systems.
Another note, it would cost them more money, but a closed Geothermal system is possible where noting is reinjected, it would cost around 25% more to build, but there would not be this issue. I would love to live in a world where being enviromentally conscious was the first priority and not after how much money it will cost to be safe!

I intend to only drink beer to stay hydrated....[

And I already have a lot to build on if I want it. [

And the weather is nice.
I have thought about not being so close to the plant, but I am getting old, it will probably take longer for the chemicals to kill me than the time I have left anyway.[:p]
Yep, that pretty much covers it!
