Greetings Punatalkers!
I have two grandkids - boys, ages 3 and 6 - who I plan on treating to their first ever commercial whale watching tour.
I believe we're pretty limited to the Kona side - not happy about that, but it is what it is.
Was wondering if anyone has experienced on the water Big Island boat tours, and if you have any operator recommendations.
Would prefer to support Hilo/Puna side businesses, but have never really heard of any on this side of the island.

I hear there is a "Captain Dan" in Hilo who does whale watching tours.

I have! There were a few whale tours out of Hilo a few years ago... I think Capt. Dan still offers sail tours:

In Hilo, we have been out on the old UH-H 4 Winds & our kayaks for whale watching & have gone out with Kohala DIver (they are having a Kama`aina special now) out of Kawaihae:
