Vehicle safety check question
#11
Bringing this waaaaay forward. Dead thread, alive again! Lazarus! I know Lex Brody does inspections. Anyone else in the Keaau/Pahoa area (or near an interesting place in Hilo I could hang out while they do the inspection?). Also, does anyone know if adaptive devices are inspected, or are those just ignored?

I don't know about interesting ...
I have done my last two at Honda, which is getting Cadillac treatment for the same state regulated price. Probably needs to be a Honda, don't know. I bought my car there.

Before that, I went to the gas station in Puainako Town Center, the one on the corner of Puainako and Hwy 11. They were fast and gave me no hassle whatsoever, so I would recommend them. (Texaco? I forget what it is.)

Stans right behind the cd place does a good job - does my oil changes too. Stan does not do repair - has nothing to "sell" - a big plus in my book.

I drop the car and wonder over to the wally world or the sears parts place - car ready when I return

Have had some cars shipped - go to stan first - he issues a temporary safety clearance - enough to get current registration from the motor vehicle folks - then back to Stan's w/current registration for the sticker

I figure its not a moving violation (safety) so I roll the dice on the 100$ fine havent been hassled - then again I dont drive around for three months on out of state or date plates either - place small enough that cops can identify (keep track of) the cars...... love that aspect of Puna

pretty smooth way to do it

Bullwinkle,
I think the original question/problem from 2007 is moot. Kelena just needs a regular check if I read this aright.
Good to know about Stan though. [Smile]

Given how chronically I forget to renew my safety inspection, the amount of time I drive around with an expired sticker, and the complete lack of response when I get to the inspection facility, I wouldn't worry about one trip. If you don't have the registration they give you the blue copy to take in with the "no registration" box checked. That lets you get the registration. Then go back with the registration and the inspection station can check that item off too and complete the inspection.
