Oh, I know that old joke, Mac! So, just to be clear, the storm I was talking about happened some years ago. The storm described by Frankie sounds vicious and reminded me of that 20 minutes in 2003, but never heard a sound from it here which also reminded me of that event. It was very localized.

Sorry Rob, this is where I draw the line. This person says things that I've been fighting against for 50 years. I saw too many casualties to let these people say whatever they want and get away with it. As I said, if it gets me booted that's fine. But as long as I'm here if i see Opihikaobob I will say who and what that piece of garbage is,

The first LOUD blast of thunder caused my two cats to leap straight up off the bed and fly onto the floor. Hilarious...I wasn't sure which woke me up, the cats action or the thunder.
My neighbor told me his wife saw an arc of lightning go from the upper part of Nanawale, across the sky heading to the bottom of the subdivision. He also told me lightning is dangerous on this island because of poor grounding due to the layers of lava flow.
I got up and unplugged everything, hoping nothing had been damaged. No damage resulted but this storm was fun to talk about with my Nanawale friends!

I heard the thunder in HPP. I think it was around 5 or 6 am. We were sleeping. It echoed as it travelled up mauka, similar to the fireworks on 4th of July. Many dogs were barking. I thought it was strange there was not much follow up, it just kinda turned into a nice day after that. I'm from Florida and am quite used to tstorms, they're fairly uncommon here on the big island

I grew up all over the South, including Fla where I was very used to the heavy thunderstorms that happen every afternoon around 4 p.m., last 15 minutes and are gone. Texas was part of tornado ally and I know Texas storms too. This was very different. I posted Glen Bousquet's pix on my FB page if you want to see. These poles suffered no fire damage whatsoever.
