Quest health plans on the Big Island
#1
Looks like we qualify for Med-Quest. Does anyone have any pros and cons for these Quest health plans: Alohacare; HMSA; Ohana Health Plan; UnitedHealthcare Community Plan? Kaiser Permanente is not available for these plans on this island. They signed us up for the UnitedHealthcare, but we can choose another option for a short time.

Thank you for your comments.

Apparently I qualified as well. Hmm, they put me on OhanaCare. From what I gather looks like it covers the most, tho I hear good things about alohacare. Don't know too much about united and kaiser doesn't offer as much as I read into it. But maybe because once you are in the kaiser network you can get what you need? Don't really know. But not really care since it's not offered on the big island via Quest anyway.

Ask your physician or clinic which of the private insurance companies they deal with best. Billing the private carriers with their arcane forms, restrictions and rules is a huge headache and big financial overhead for many medical providers, but some of the companies are supposed to be better than others. YMMV.
