Introduction
#1
I'm not sure if this is the correct thread, but want to introduce myself! I (sorta) moved to Hawaii by default over a year ago, because of my youngest daughter (now 16) who suffers badly from arthritis. She has other (invisible too most) disabilities (hip, knee, back) that have resulted in 30 surgeries over the past 7 years, alone. Her PT said 'move. Now. Somewhere warm', so after visiting Mexico & Southern California, here we are. We wanted to move to Thailand, where we've been to 8 times, but can't own property there, etc.

So, spent a year traveling/staying all over the islands. Luckily for us, I can work as I go. I've been a journeyman 01 (can do anything)electrician (commercial/industrial) for 18 years. I'm also a welder/fabricator with any/every certification. Also a carpenter, though mostly finish...SO! We worked our way around the islands mostly staying at B&B's, working 2-3 hours a day/5 days a week for room & board and spending the rest of our time exploring.

Ending up/coming back to here.

I will have my Hawaii electrician license soon, and we are now back in Washington selling our house we love. I am SO excited to get a NEW (maybe decrepit) house for us, though! I hope to make some new friends here that love the idea of work parties! Time for time, and I actually have some mad skills! And an awesome set of tools Smile

Saying good-bye to old friends here, hoping to make many, many new ones! My daughter has spent most of her life being home-schooled, or doing just on-line school, she is looking forward to going to High School with kids her age. Going to dances, socializing - things she could never do while being in mass amounts of pain every day.

So, hello Puna people! I JUST got my house back today here in Washington, my renters did not want to move out, and I feel so badly - but they are two wage-earners, I am one. I asked them to leave last August 1, and they are just now leaving after threatening eviction.
I will be way too busy to communicate on here for the next couple of months. I will be readying this house to sell.

But, when this house sells, I hope we can make friends with many of you, and build the support system we need and can contribute readily to yours.

Please, no negative drama my way. If it's regarding a particular property, then yes! But, bad is everywhere - seems especially prevalent here - but, this is low budget - and I'm okay with the risks.

Just hoping to make some new friends here, establish our lives/find out where we fit in.

Welcome,From one sparky to another. You should be able to find work here. There's a need for good skilled laborers. Things are picking up in the RE market. Lots of remodeling going on. Not a lot of new construction. Haven't wired a new house in a while.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

Welcome to Punaweb. It sounds like you have a great attitude. Best of luck selling your house and finding a new home in Puna. You've certainly done the right thing by spending some time here before moving. Before buying a lot or house make sure you spend some time (months) in the neighborhood. Just be relaxed and friendly and I'm sure you'll receive the same.
Me ka ha`aha`a,
Mike
