Wind direction site
#1
I have become addicted to watching the wind direction when outside as my big fear right now, more so than the SO2's and methane, is what lurks under all the tarps of the property with the tire mountain. I bought respirator filters for the inevitable but don't know where to quickly find wind direction for our area and that seems to be a key component right now and in the future. Thankfully today the wind was roaring out of the north for most of the day but now it has laid down. I'm sure someone would know where to find that as about all I get is either old information or information from Oahu, lot of good that does me! Many thanks for all the great info on this site!

Pam, NOAA forecasts wind direction for each day and each night as part of the forecast.
I'd link it for you but am on my phone.
I think the VNP site has a vog monitor that shows current wind direction, which might be helpful.

Click on "more data" for graphs. Wind direction is given in degrees 0 = (from) North, 180 = (from) South. Scroll down for Wind Speed graph.

This is also helpful for predicting wind direction.

This is what I got after a search for "Pahoa weather" I don't know if they have an actual weather vane in Pahoa, but it seems a little different for Hilo weather and Keaau weather. You can compare with what you feel to see if it is accurate enough. Click on the wind box for the link below.

There are so many resources available it just boggles the mind but I'll just list the easier ones to understand. Please let me know if you want more. This site requires an e-mail and password but is currently still free and is excellent;
http://www.predictwind.com/

If you don't want to go that route, here are free and easy to use sites;
http://graphical.weather.gov/sectors/hawaii.php

Wind model-handy converter for Universal Time Code or UTC on the left side column
http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display_...i?a=hi_slp

There is a more detailed map they just made for the Big Island but it appears to be currently non-operational;
http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display_alt.cgi?a=bigi

This site is good;
http://www.windfinder.com/

Air Quality is always an issue;
http://airquality.weather.gov/sectors/hawaii.php

If you click on the reporting stations on the right scroll down and you'll find a graph illustrating Wind direction;
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Forecas...n=USHI0074

This maybe TMI but I hope these help!
