Frank - Sen Ruderman is convening a forum on Industrial Hemp next month, and is advocating for an expansion of its permitted use in Hawaii. So it's safe to say he's for it.
HiloPuna - I won't comment on your remarkable know-all abilities. But your statements, including "... anyone who's spent any time at the Lege knows otherwise," and the 'facts' that this obfuscation is supposed to defend, are all false.

The ".....post what you want, but without any credible facts, it just pablum puke." comment was directed at the 3 or 5 posters that mostly post nothing but BS and rhetoric when it comes to Ruderman. I get it, they don't like him, so be it. Nothing will ever satisfy them.
No worries HP, I don't take online postings personally, unless a specific physical threat is made.
Hardly a player, but involved from time to time in the process as a vested observer (we all are), perhaps just a bit more than others and less than remainder.
The change in the House was for the better, but only for the short term. I don't think Kouchi really had a majority, it was just the prevailing bluff at the time.
And I still stand on how the chairs get their rewards. While they may desire a specific position, they usually put in for the two or three they want and eventually Speaker or President decide. May not be the way it is done every single season, exceptions happen, but as far as this year coming up, at least on the Senate side. The House has managed to minimize the usual mess of being the most disorganized of the legislature. Hopefully they won't be as adamant in keeping things the same (at least among the older Reps.) in an attempt to control or at least force the hand of the upper chamber. But given the chair selections, I am not holding my breath.
I do find it interesting that the House felt the need to double down by putting both Tsuji and Onishi together on Ag. I doubt GMO's will be the big brouhaha it was the last couple of years. Too many other more important ag issues to address. But with the sneaky types of the House, you never know.

Really, "...all false" ! Okay, referring to the 'facts' can you substantiate your statement so I have something, anything, meaningful to reply to?
Referring to my statement regarding the common knowledge of those who observed or participated in the transition from Speaker Say to Speaker Joe and how that acts as a model for my understanding of the organizational practices factions use at the Lege, again, can you substantiate your alternative reality? Perhaps before you continue your hemp research...

Respect.
We differ in our understandings and I don't agree with your version of the Senates recent organization, but you have fleshed out your arguments. I have a bit more faith in the House than you seem to. Saikii is smart, ambitious and patient, a rare combination. I'm assuming this will be Speaker Joes last hurrah so will then see how the two sub factions play it out. I do believe those two leaders (Luke & Saikii) orchestrated the Chair changes at the two committees which had the most controversial appointments, AGR and WAL.
Even with all this, and especially compared to the Senate, I think the House looks stable for the next few sessions.

Respect as well HP.
Now for the Steve Jobs "Oh, and one more thing..."
Depends on who Ige can cherry pick as well. Could still be more changes to come.

All due respect to the sitting Senators but I don't see the administrative types ripe for the plucking. That's not to say that the Gov won't prioritize loyalty and find the opportunity to appoint replacements impossible to resist. DLNR in particular cries for a professional manager and not an advocate or careerist.
I hope Ige seeks out 'best available' and not politicize the process (too much). McCartney was a good choice to lead staff but I hope he doesn't represent a trend.

HiloPuna - I agree with you on the last couple of posts! So, an apology and respect from this corner also. Saiki is an astute player, as is Luke. Both will be leaders in that chamber soon. I think the House ag appointment was more Souki tho. And I agree not too many of the senate seem admin types. Ige seems committed to competence above all, which is refreshing. Not to disparage any Senators, but administration of a large department is a very different ball game from legislating.
