Iolani Luahine - Hauoli La Hanau
#1
Aunty Iolani Luahine. A treasure. A true "practitioner".

This woman was one of the pillars of our ohana. Many could learn so much from her teachings, along with other kupuna.

Aunty Iolani revered Tutu Pele, and always asked, "Did you mahalo Tutu Pele? Make sure you do." These words resonate with my na'au. We take her directive seriously, and mahalo Tutu Pele. Easpecially in this day and age. FWIW.

FYI: (*Snipped - More at link)

A century ago on this day, Kumu Iolani Luahine was born. Raised and trained by her Aunt Julia Keahi Luahine, "Auntie Io" went on to become recognized as "the" foremost exponent of ancient hula in the 20th century. She lived to age 63 and during her lifetime, she taught, touched, and inspired with her hula and inimitable ways.

Many of you out there knew her personally and were fortunate to experience her hula. (We'd love to hear from you!) For others, you can come to know her better through their first-hand accounts, and taking in moving images of her.

Come join Hula Preservation Society as we kick off Imiloa Astronomy Center's annual Merrie Monarch Enrichment Series in Hilo, on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015, 10:00 - 11:30am, and pay tribute to this truly memorable and important woman of the hula, Iolani Luahine.
