SB819 SD1 Public School Students/Free Labor
#11
Not that it will make a difference but I agree with you whalesong. The Public pahoa high already over works its few athletes. See pahoa does not offer half the activities other schools offer. The kids must work car washes, consesion booths, and anything else the under paid coaches tell them too. Parents must drive their kids to area races or meets as pahoa has no transportation. What ever amount is raised or shall I say earned by the students then has to be spent this year as money can not be transferred to the next season. So most just go into coaches or athletic directors pockets as bonus. The kids have long 6-6p.m days weekly to be students athletes, they must also compete and now work car washes on their weekends. The kids do love to hang out and work together so its not all bad, some do get burned out or feel slighted though. Pahoa's last A.D was awful for over 20 years and with the lava decisions by DOE we should feel lucky to have any sports for our keiki.

Your right Frank, sorry my bad. The money just dissapears, we really don't know where the thousands of student earned money goes(nonprofit)? Just got to smile and look forward to another. This has happened way to many times now to just feel like the money lost are adult accidents. Frank you may know more about these issues than most of us disappointed parents who continue to donate time and money, year after year?.

Gypsy, I know this...if I make reckless statements it never helps the conversation...I suspect a team of parent + a school administrative type keeper of the cash may work.
