Yeah definitely interesting. I haven't had the time to read all of the information yet (lots of links embedded) but I plan on doing so and I would hope that all of those participating in the discussion on PW and elsewhere about the TMT would be so inclined as to educate themselves as to all that is currently being done to protect Mauna Kea.

I mentioned it in another thread, but there has been an awful lot of work done by MKSS and the observatories to avoid bringing invasive species to the mountain. Given the huge influx of people to the VIS, I suspect all that effort and money was for nowt.

Mahalo rainyjim, for posting the information put forth by the UH.
Unfortunately, what is written has yet to be realized. As the State Auditor opinion provides in several audits over the years, existing contracts are not adhering to conditions set forth. The UH just continues to collect money, without addressing the breaching of contract(s). Politics at it's best, at the UH. This link provides the State Auditor's reports with regard to Mauna Kea specifically: http://auditor.hawaii.gov/?s=mauna+kea Let us hope the UH begins to pay more attention to the existing leases and BLNR/DLNR begins to enforce what is required under the law. Per the State Auditor, they all have LOTS of work to do. JMO. |
