longer Council terms...

Chung and Wille say council members need more time so they can focus on more long-term projects and fulfill their role as the policy-making body of the county. Two years just isn't enough time to tackle complex issues such as environmental waste solutions and big road projects, they say.

Is this anything like "Building is working so slowly that we need more plan checkers"?

On the fence about this one, kalakoa. There's both good and bad to this discussion. As usual.

Fish or cut bait, comes to mind, but the County is such a labyrinth, it may take a while to find the pace.

Big Isle is too small scale to be a labyrinth, just good ol boy corruption is the problem. See Mayor Kenoi.

The real reason:

Onishi said increasing the term to 10 years would allow council members to get retirement health benefits, which will raise the cost to taxpayers.

Perhaps mental health coverage during their term would be a better investment.
