Our guest speaker is Christian Giardina, a Staff Scientist at the Institute for Pacific Island Forestry. He has been working on integrating western science and traditional cultural knowledge to inform conservation practice in Hawaii. This work includes the formation of Halau Ohia, a training program for natural resource managers in Hawaiian culture and management practice. He is also using this approach to work on opportunities for community based cooperative management to build sustainability and resilience to climate change.
