I make mine out of cotton yarn. I can show some to you when I see you next, & tell you how I make them.#128522; They still need to dry out well & it's a good idea to rinse them out with some bleach water solution. Acrylic yarn would probably dry faster tho...

For me, acrylic or other synthetic yarn is quicker to dry and the cloth has no smelly odor. I tried making one out of cotton yarn before and did not like it. You can try one with cotton and one with acrylic to see which one you like better.
Walmart and Ben Franklin have both types of yarns. The yarns I use are made by Coats and Clark. Don’t remember the brand name for cotton’s, could it be Lilly?

second to grabbing a pack of scott's sponges with the green pad on top.
If it starts smelling funky and the sponge is still good, toss it in the microwave for about a minute ... like new again!

You can deodorize as well as sanitize all the above mentioned cleaning pads by nuking them in the microwave for a minute or 2....just don't pick them up immediately after nuking them. Sure saves on the bleach, peroxide, vinegar or alcohol purchases...

A new year's start off 2017 tip? I heat up water to make tea, coffee, oats whatever... Usually there is some hot water (almost boiling temps leftover). Pour the unused hot water into a glass or bowl...
I sanitize my sonicare toothbrush (once a week) especially if I am getting over a virus, pour it over a sponge in a bowl. Heat will quickly kill all the germs and bacteria on anything! Stay healthy!!

Trader Joe's "kitchen cloths! They are highly absorbent, come in different colors, do eventually dry (and do that faster than most materials) and are machine washable if they get that stank. Downside: Trader Joe's is the one polynesian-themed store we lack. Upside: Cheap and easy to pack if you are in America and in a state that has a Trader Joe's and if you are allowed to leave and are not pressed into service for the Carrier air conditioning company, which is expecting cheap labor now. Easily mailed, too. Or you can get them on Amazon - but at a price. If you go to America, always leave a note to let someone know.
