From the article:

"The Hawaii Police Department also took a man to Hilo Medical Center after he had been discovered on the ocean floor near Kehena Beach. The fire department classified the incident as a drowning.

The fire department responded to a swimmer in distress near Kehena Beach in Pahoa at 12:11 p.m. Officials said the swimmer was last seen face down and sinking near rocky point at the south end of the beach.

Officials said rescuers on jet skis retrieved the body. The jet-ski personnel discovered the body on the ocean floor in about 30 feet of water approximately 100 yards from where he was last seen."

This got me wondering. Where do the jet skis come from? Pohoiki? I can't think of any other place you could launch from.

Correct. That is a long ride over to Kehena. Based on google maps, it appears to be about 7 miles.
