"While a consultant is scheduled to complete a $500,000 Mass Transit master plan in February, there are more rudimentary actions that need to be taken first, she said."
I find it hard to believe, with HCC students getting degrees in automotive. That they can't get in gear and find a few gems out of the class to go fix these busses and clean up the yard. Half the feet is down, that's unacceptable... An ounce of prevention is worth it's weight in gold, probably 90% of the reason was due to lack of maintenance. You can't run a reliable bus service if you can't even properly maintain the buses. Point is, if your going to put your maintenance tech's at the bottom of the priority heap, be prepared for more bus breakdowns and maybe possibility of the bus service being put on life support. Will be interesting to see what kim does or doesn't do. Meanwhile the people that depend on the bus will suffer. Maybe if we got TMT to fix the bus problem, we could build it! hahaha Right...

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. The article did say we will fix the problem(S). One can only hope. All decent size towns need a public bus system. I for one, enjoy leaving the car behind quite often and take the bike along with me on the bus. Life just seems to slow down a little bit and a person can just enjoy more of the sites at a slower pace.
by the way, there seem to be (4) eric's on punaweb posting. Just an observation. Aloha, Eric S.

Hilo is not a town, nor is Kona; they are just "dense areas" of the County. Related problem: bus service doesn't reach the vast "private" "agricultural" subdivisions. If I wanted to take the bus, I would have to hike 1-2 miles to the highway, wading through huge puddles, carrying a club and/or pepper spray for the free-range dogs, and jumping into the brush whenever a car passes by (no shoulders, no sidewalks) ... so of course I drive everywhere. |
