Big Island Video News has published the video of the Senate hearing on HB 1585 and 1985. I'm no fan of Ruderman but thought his argument against 1585 was excellent. I was disappointed, however, to see him support 1985 with reservations. He said he would support it because the public was given a chance to testify, but he failed to mention that the public testimony was nearly 100% against the bill. That just gives the impression that public testimony is only there so the law can be satisfied but public opinion ignored.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the House has refused to even appoint members to a conference committee to consider Kahele's "gut and replace" attempt to curtain construction on Mauna Kea:

This article will probably be behind the pay wall by the time you read this, but Kahele's end run around the democratic process appears to have been killed. Meanwhile, he's not taking calls.
