We'd be thrilled to see a Cuban restaurant in Pahoa. I used to frequent Havana on Sunset in Hollywood. Great food, great music, great people.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Havana on Sunset was one of my faves because it was the only place in L.A. where you could get 'vaca frita' and 'yuca frita'. Last time I was there was 2 years ago and the quality of food dropped to the bottom even in their 'Cuban coffee', I was very disappointed. However still a very good Cuban restaurant is 'El Colmao' on Pico between Hoover and Vermont. And of course Portos Bakery in Glendale, buenisssssimo!

Luckily it is very easy to grow cassava in Puna (have I mentioned ever that it is a weed in my yard??), so yuca frita is easy as..... yuca frita! Anyone that wants starts.... (and yes, you must cook the root thoroughly....I boil 'em first, just to make sure.... can always use the boiled ones later, they freeze well - just like taters...)
