Thunder, explosions?
#1
Just heard a cluster of explosions or repeat thunder from the direction of lower Puna. Kind of went on longer than thunder normally would though...

ETA: Hmm, windy.com says there are thunderstorms in K'au, maybe I was wrong on the direction.

With over 280 eqs in the same "cluster" area over the last month the 14 seen in the last day is about average, or slightly above.

Most of the eqs in that area are at a depth of 20 miles (more or less). I understand them to be associated with the continual transport, upwelling, of magma from it's source into the volcano and have nothing to do with the shallower movement of magma within the volcano itself.

Some cold mid-level air caused thunderstorms in Puna earlier today but those temperatures are forecast to increase over the next day so thunderstorms will be less likely. There may be heavy snowfall on Mauna Kea later this week.
