If you happen to be out shopping why not pick up a few bags or cans of pet food to help out our island's pet parents impacted by the Covid virus. You can drop off unopened bags or cans of cat, dog or puppy food at any of the island's 3 shelters. If you prefer, you can also donate online to the effort in several ways. This resource is becoming vital to many now, especially with unemployment checks stalled.
Here's more from the HIHS FB page:
"Since launching our program yesterday afternoon, we have already received requests for over A TON (a literal TON... over 2,000lbs) of adult dog, adult cat, puppy, and kitten food. Although the instance of those diagnosed with COVID-19 is not as high on Hawaii Island, our community has indeed been impacted due to job loss. Please help us keep pets where they belong: in loving, forever homes with their humans. #10084;#65039;
•
To HELP:
1. Please donate new, UNOPENED, unexpired bags and cans of dog, cat, puppy and kitten food to any of our 3 shelter locations. Animal shelters are considered essential for the life and care of animals.
2. We will also accept donations of Walmart and Target gift cards.
3. To donate without leaving the safety of your home, please visit our Amazon Wishlist (https://a.co/dv1vvtt) where we have requested food from all different price points. If shipping is too expensive or will take too long, please consider purchasing Petco or Tractor Supply gift cards from our wishlist.

If you have been impacted by COVID-19 and need food for your owned pets*, please go to hihs.org/item/pet-pantry to submit a request.
