Hawaii Island police are searching for a gunman in Pahoa following reports in the area Thursday afternoon.

Officers are focusing on the makai end of the Ainaloa subdivision.

A Special Response Team has been deployed to assist in the search.

Residents in homes near Maile Way have been evacuated as a precaution.

He’s still at large, but the good news is it was a personal beef between neighbors:

Responding officers learned that Galigo and a male neighbor had been involved in a verbal dispute fronting Galigo’s residence when Galigo reportedly brandished a pistol and fired it. There were no reported injuries.
