Lava Tours Reviewed, Climbing Volcanos
#51
I know, the boat looks like Dorothy's house before it got picked up and whisked to Oz. [Wink]

Thank you, Greg!

I know the red lava is what fascinates many people, but I found the plume endlessly fascinating. Every second it's changing. The same at Halemaumau. I love the infinite variation in shape of that cloud, even without any red to be seen.

Interesting how many of you want to be out on the water near the bench. I have no desire to be that close. Yes it is exciting but what if the bench cracks? I used to have lava nightmares way back when I was 10 years old and had never lived near a volcano. From the movies, I suppose ... I spent a lot of time imagining falling in. LOL. So I am just fine in the "cheap seats."[8D]

I'm not sure why so many people get in a tizzy about lava boat tours. Some people are more adventurous than you and are willing to take risks that you are not. Sounds like Shane has an excellent safety record. His trip sounds far less risky than some of the hikes I've done. I hope to do it some day.

My main problem with people taking risks isn't against a person putting his own life on the line. It's that we have Search and Rescue people who put their lives on the line to help people who get in trouble, and sometimes they get hurt, even killed. And the tax payers pay the bill. I'd rather not have our tax base pay for other people's adventure mishaps, when so many community needs are not taken care of.
