USGS says Fern Forest is closest subdivision, 10 mi, 12 mi from Volcano and Eden Roc.
yes I felt it, scared me more than 40 miles away! My house is on dirt, not rock, so it shakes pretty good. Hope everyone near the epicenter is OK. Wow, right here in Fern Forest and didn't feel a thing.
Maybe the last 15 years of boat living have something to do with that. Of course it seems I feel the ground moving all the time.

![]() Interesting, Jay! You were the person I thought of and hoped all was well. It was a sharp jolt here, and I was in the doorframe waiting to see if I needed to find a better doorframe. Having been in some 7's, my question is always how much more intense is it going to get? In this case, not. The map shows quite a few responses from north of Hilo. Guess it's the dirt, huh? My cats freaked out; they rarely come running for the house like that unless a mongoose is after them.

My mom felt it in Hilo at about the 3 mile marker of Waianuenue Ave... (Kaumana area)
I'm thinking the closer they are to the summit of the Mountain...the more rocking might have happened?[8] Things tend to sway more towards the top of things...? ------- Just a piece of my thinking

We were at the final Zero Waste meeting on the 10th floor of Naniloa....there were 2 distinct 'bumps', the second one got the building into a sway for a bit... water in bottles & glasses slooshed for a few seconds (which is more like forever when you think about the area of the hotel that is under renovation, & you just passed thinking "my, they are doing extensive work here!")
