How much does it cost to have a tank cleaned. It does not need cleaned, only once every few years?
How does it stay clean then?

I think the last time I had mine cleaned it was a few hundred dollars. Make sure that you have a domed cover -- that really helps keep it cleaner and make sure that your roof (where the water is being caught) is kept clear of rubbish and leaves as much as you can. Get the catchment book from UH-Hilo for more ideas.

Mike at Paradise Pools in HPP charged me $250 to replace the overflow, replace some ballast and clean the catchment, so just the cleaning would probably be a little over $200. I have been very satisfied with his tank and service.

Mike at Paradise Pools no longer cleans catchment tanks. Steve Sheldon (Steve's Catchment 966-7945) cleaned my catchment in HPP for $150, and installed an 18' dome canopy($300)and 19' mesh cover ($170) for $150 plus $32.08 tax, last November.

A well vs a "container storage" cost wise.
Say the well cost 10k? a 20' shipping container cost 3k. The liner another 1k Crane to manuever the container and deliver to site 2k. Site prep w/ poured foundation 3k Plumbing 1k Paint & primer $500 Pumps & filters 2k modified hatch 1k delivery of 10K gallons of water $500 approx. cost $14.K- A well is long term low maintenance and a reliable constant source of water, fresh water. How long would a liner last? How often would you have to paint the container? IMHO a well makes way more sense than converting a shipping container into a holding tank. As cool as the idea of a container tank is, it can't even come close to competing with a well.

I apologise to daniel, this is his page
Thanks, I apologise to daniel, this is his topic, am deleting my post, see container homes theads. It was in response to a pool cleaning estimation. But with pollutants in water, an easy solution to verification will be required, water testing is going to be prudent till safe results are normal, till then, treatment and lab costs. There should no cessholes from the highway to the sea., common courtesy with a water table. Cesspools were allowed because The water table was unknown. Good lab tests are expensive unless paid for in advance by contract. With heavy metal testing the cost can drop to half or less in bulk. Request bids from the competition. Better yet, try to find a cheap easy (litmus strips for as may chemicals as possible) reducing the outside testing to minimum targets, cheaper. Self testing isn't accurate but is usually over sensitive in accuracy, now you send samples out on rush! A well would be better at twice the price, but one contracted illness, just suspected, will degrade their worth. Unlike some realtors not giving disclosure, address the possible drawbacks and offer a sustainable solution in advance, same thing for filtering solutions, hui on locally repairable systems. At 3000+ " i aint going to qualify! Go Daniel!
