Catchment filtration systems
#1
My wife and I are moving to HPP at the end of the month and I was wondering about filtration systems. I have searched the forum and gotten some information. I have seen the recommendation for Hawaii Catchment Company and wondered if others had recommendations besides them? Could this be a Do-It-Yourself project or is that not recommended? I would like to be able to drink the water safely so it would probably include a UV filter also. Thank you for your time and all the information that I've gained from reading this forum!

She doesn't do the actual plumbing work, but Hope at American Water Filtration carries all the equipment. That's where I got my UV, 20-inch charcoal filter, etc. I like that she was honest with me and said "before the charcoal filter and UV, just pick up a couple of the standard Culligan 10-inch filters from Ace Hardware". Gotta respect that kind of honesty.

I got the equipment from her and had a plumber install them.

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself if you don't know about how the filters and the UV light (not a filter) are installed and the principles of function. Or, if you don't know how to do a good, tight plumbing installation. You can get very sick from drinking improperly treated water. Even showering and brushing your teeth with poorly treated water can be risky.

Some people on PunaWeb don't like Waterworks, but they've done very well by me.

When we bought our house it had a single sediment filter. We added a second sediment filter and a UV light. It wasnt' hard. The folks at Water Works were very helpful and the manual that comes with the UV light has info on how to install it correctly.

It would be helpful to have some degree of plumbing knowledge, though we don't have much and all went well. We had already learned what happened when seals aren't tight enough when we put in our hot water heater. [:0]
