#1
So all you OB or construction oriented punawebbers...

So where are you getting the best prices on:
-Lumber?
-Windows?
-Kitchen cabinets?
-Roofing materials - asphalt shingles?

Thanks in advance [Smile]

Garage sales for light & plumbing fixtures, doors, windows, simpson fittings, wire, nails and tools. Lots of folks are selling tools these days we just got a cement mixer two weeks ago. Dunno quite what we needed it for, but now we have one.

Unfortunately, you have to take the time to shop around. Seems no one place is best deal on everything. For me, at the time of purchase, usually HPM was the choice for structural (4x4, 4x6, 4x12 etc) lumber. Home Depot had best prices on doors (garage, french and sliders), HPM best on windows, Loews best on tile, Alpha electric on boxes, Home Depot on paint (due to 25% off sale, HPM on 94lb bags of mortar. HD on tool rental. I've bought tools from all of above and Sears. I'm not a shopper by nature, so shopping for best deal was not something I relished - if shopping I wasn't building. Keep in mind that for larger items always ask about delivery. I believe HD always charges delivery. Not only did HPM give me a better price on windows, but included free delivery. Sometimes, I would find prices equal, sheetrock at the time. Don't forget to open a cash account at HPM, you save varying % on items. You can also take advantage of HD sales, promotions, discounts if you know what you need and can time it right - for me mostly luck.

Good luck and enjoy the adventure.

Don't forget the ReStore in Kona, run by Habitat For Humanity. Absolutley the best prices, but you never know what'll be in stock at any given time. You can call ahead (331-8010 main office) to see what's on hand and determine if the trip around the island is worth it - it sure was worth it for us!

Last time I had to buy windows for a building project, Kona Building Supply (KBS) had the best prices. So much better than HPM and Home Depot that it was worth the drive to get them.
