We also used Independent Hawaii Surveyors, but had looked at Imata (they were busy when we wanted ours...)
The best reason to use a survey, instead of a pin finder is illustrated on the JDirgos post, the second post on the second page:

Bear in mind of the responsibilities if a mistake (they do make them!) is made. In the last county we lived in, you needed at stamped survey for ANY building permit. We used the same old surveyor when we were re-roofing (that's right, we needed a survey for a re-roof!) The front desk clerk at the building dept realized that the original & all subsequent surveys by this surveyor had the wrong scale... All of the correction work & the delay of work costs were covered by the surveyor.... A non-licensed guy bears absolutely no responsibility if there is a mistake.
