Oh, I am SOOOOO GLAD Rob gave us a gardening/farming/agriculture section. It is as important as the building section. Way cool !!!
Okay, so now you all definitely know I can't spell. Actually I spell well... but I can't type.
So to answer your questions, however belatedly...
arrots = carrots
tarot = taro
fortunately we had only a very small quantity of the taro leaves because I have since learned that they must be boiled for about an hour to break down the calcium oxalate crystals. I am such a Haole sometimes!
The garden is slow. My tennant for the cabin moved out and she was the gardener extraordinaire. Another friend moved in but although she expressed great interest, everything has gone untouched by her... so I guess it is back on my shoulders. Of course now that I am finally not feeling like pond slime living under a rock somewhere, it will be my pleasure to get back into it. I have been planting starts of greenbeans, yellow wax beans and a few other things this week. Today I sprayed an oil & soap solution onto my citrus that were inundated suddenly with aphids. We are seeing blossoms on some trees so maybe a few oranges or limes this season? We have a few guava already. The figs are in full leaf but no flowers yet. Looks like I killed another batch of cacao trees. Ugh... but life goes on. The mountain new apples and plums are looking grand and the blood oranges are sprouting new leaves like crazy. We put in half a dozen avocado trees a few months ago and although they dropped their leaves immediately, each and every one has new leaf buds coming out of the top
. I love my land!!
Jim and Carey gave me a tanerine that is doing great, by the way.
All the strawberries went on to a better place; I should have taken them over to Nancy Fryhover when I thought about it. They don't love me.
I am slowly preparing the ground for putting up a large greenhouse... maybe 24 x 60 or 70 feet.
Our "pig hunter guys" have been slowly helping me fence in a 2 acre area for our goats, who are currently living in the pigpen quarters near the banana nursery since the pigs are in the freezer. I am hoping to finish this week. They have been so cool t help with this project... all for the privilege of eradicating our land of the bothersome wild pigs who rip apart things. Man, did I score on this one!
We are getting from 6 to 12 free range eggs a day thanks to our new fosterson who thinks the chore of finding eggs every day is cool.
So... with many projects on all the burners, we are doing great. I am no longer feeling overwhelmed and the little pieces are coming together. We enjoy every day here in our rainforest wonderland.
Thank you to ALL OF YOU for your contributions in so many ways.
Aloha. Pam
Just another day in P A R A D I S E !!
