African tulip tree
#11
There is a large orange flowered African tulip tree which is unfortunately upwind of our yard. I'm constantly weeding tulip tree spouts out of everywhere. It isn't such a bad tree, but we don't need them everywhere. It also seems to drop branches periodically, so if given a choice, I'd not want to have one growing very closely to my house.

I nearly planted a jacqaranda in Arizona when we lived there, but when we made the decision to leave it didn't make sense. I know they're messy, but it seems like all of that gets taken back by the jungle anyway. We live on cinder...oh I dunno.

i was on the way to visit pam the other day and passed a jacaranda in mountain view by the side of the road - wow what a show stopper it really was amazing with all the green everywhere......its funny because i never really noticed them where they grew in my neighborhood in oakland california.....orchid trees/bauhinias are also a show stopper but don't seem to be abundant in the puna area - i'm assuming that they typically like the dryer kona side...although i did see some at the orchid grower akasaka sp? in glenwood.

boy, i really need to edit my posts before i hit submit....what i meant for the jacaranda was all the amazing purple blooms over the entire tree and juxtaposed against all the green foliage plants in the background. This made the entire tree pop out more significantly.....
