Tree Prunning
#1
Just wondering if anyone is aware of hands on pruning class for fruit trees[?] I would love to learn the correct way so I don't end up with a bunch of strange looking trees[:0] Cathie and I stopped into Rosett's (sp?) Yesterday but they were not aware of classes on the subject[V]

If nothing else.... Is there a service available where someone will come out and prune for a fee[?]

There is a lot of information online in you can't find a class.

This site has some good basics.

There don't seem to be that many gardening classes around but perhaps after you find out about pruning you could have a class? I've seen diagrams in gardening books and saw something about pruning on TV once but it was all mainland based information.

Some folks prune to keep branches from interfering with each other. Some pruning seemed to be done to let more light into the interior of the tree. Other pruning was done to esplanier a tree into a shape against a wall.

My Napa Valley friend always wants to prune my grape vines for me but they seem to do fine without it. They missed their pruning last year and seem to have loads more fruit setting this year. Maybe because the vines were longer so there was more place to set fruit? The coffee trees get pruned for height so I can reach the coffee berries.

I guess there are a variety of reasons to prune things so figure out what you want for an end result and then figure out which parts to cut off if any at all.

Oh, and it seems pretty difficult to kill a tree by excessive pruning around here. I've been trying to kill several trees off and have whacked them down to the ground and they still keep coming back.

For "How to" questions and learning, I like video.

Check out http://video.google.com/ for tutorials on just about anything you can imagine.

In this case, type " fruit tree pruning" in search box.

A good 10 minute pruning video found there is:

Mainland video, but principles apply.
