Be a landscape design stah!

I'd build a large rock-lined bed, fill it with more cinder and then build a trellis. Then dig circular holes circa two feet in diameter at its base, amend the holes and plant some sort of vining crops like Thai or Italian edible gourds, Hawaiian Wonder Beans or even Chinese long beans or limas.

Root barriers can be metal or plastic sheets, pounded into the ground 4"-6" or more..., but not as practical here... I have heard of people using strips of old corrugated roof tin for a decade or so of barrier... still gotta get them INTO the ground... ka-thungggggggg

Our old (well HE wasn't that old) HPP neighbor had a driveway installed near his wall while we lived there & the contractor dug a trench down to the solid lava flow rock (not too far, only a few inches...) & filled in with concrete (don't wanna know the price, but this guy was really into his yardscape... he's the one with a lava tube pool...)to sorta stabilize the wall (no footings under the wall...)& to keep neighbor tree roots from wrecking the drive...
