Tell that to all the families of people being killed over there daily.
yep, the same problems the USA has had from the beginning. Though it seems these days that the US is the only people in the world willing to die to free others.
I just hope we don't stop the fight because there are a lot more unfree people in the world compared to the the free...
if you want to have some fun... research free speech, you will find that even in the civilized countries, they don't what we have.

To DrJ,
From what I read, the Big Island is not going to be a stop after Maui.
Maui to the Big Island would be cool, I think, but it's going to be BI to Oahu. Everything passes through Oahu, like most of the air flights.
You can't compare the Washington/BC area ferries to this. Those ferries travel much more protected waters. We DO have ferries where it's practical, between Maui and Lana'i, Maui and Moloka'i, and I have been on the Lana'i Ferry when it was rocking and rolling.
The Alenuihaha channel between Maui and BI is known for 40 foot swells. NOT a commuter's dream, and no wonder they're avoiding it. The cruise ships do! But they do it by coming into Hilo, not Kawaihae.
Military transport is what does come through Kawaihae. Coincidence?
Lastly, there HAVE been inter-island ferries before, but they FAILED. IIRC, because of rough ocean conditions.
btw, they are working on new facilities above Kawaihae, at least I was told the new industrial type construction there is for the Superferry.
Ahh well that at least makes sense. I hadn't heard much about that before, so I guess there would be a darn good reason. Overall I just think it's too bad because if you can get the ferry system going, it could be a boon to the economy. And nowadays any little bit to improve things goes a long way.

killing hundreds of thousands for oil is not defending hawaii(sure made alot of the warmongers' friends rich though), since hawaii is a major base for the u.s. i doubt much will be cut here, i don't need a gun, the coquis are too small to hit....

Any untimely death is a tragedy.
Soldier killed serving his country
Passenger in a car wreck
Victim killed by another driver
Victim of home invasion
Victim of mugging
Victim of some druggie/alcoholic
Victim of family abuse
Victim of airplane/train/bus crash
Victim attempting to cross the street
Victim of a fire/hurricane/flood/tornado/etc
I'm sure you could add to the list, but IF I had to choose my untimely demise, #1 would be MY only choice.
I'm also sure a PW researcher could give us the statistics for each group, but won't because cause #1 will not be the overall leader.
I kinda doubt we'll see the Superferry here on BI, not with current economy. As for the 25% cut, I would like to believe that the most ardent supporters are also the most prevalent sharers of the nonwealth, but that wouldn't be reality.

Being from Texas I can tell you that coquis are not to small to hit, it just takes practice.
