I don't think the others will suffer, if they have good food and good service at a fair price, they will be fine.

I don't care about the fast food joints, but I'd welcome Long's because it's one less reason to drive to Hilo. Anything that saves gas and keeps people off the highways seems good to me.

I'll vote with my wallet. Haven't been to KFC or Burger King in decades, and don't plan to go again. But hey, if they can make enough money to survive and thrive in Pahoa then the people have spoken. Who am I to deny them their poison? However, I do support measures to set architectural guidelines so any business that comes to Pahoa fits in with the Pahoa aesthetic. (haoleboy says this would require surrounding the restaurants with junk cars and chained dogs...but that's not what I mean :-)
I too welcome Long's.

I truly believe in supporting the small businesses including pharmacies that help our communities thrive, but please keep in mind, many of us have health insurance that require we use specific pharmacies. My son's insurance specifically requires the use of Long's drugs, so for him this will a plus having one near bye. Our own insurance let's us use some of the well known pharmacies, but not the smaller independents. Sorry, but that is a reality and when you are on meds that are expensive, this is a huge consideration.
