For $1.99/mo. you can call someone on the mainland unlimited. As long as both of you have the service. I.E.- My Mom is in Chicago and My Dad is in San Francisco and I'm here in Puna. We each signed up for $1.99/mo. and now can talk unlimited. That simple. Emailm me carlosm650@yahoo.com for more info or questions.

Try Skype.com. It works over the internet and it's free. If your friends and family have web access and a simple mic/speaker set up, you can chat or phone for no charge. This applies to folks in the US and in other countries.
Through the end of the year, you can even call regular phones using your Skype account for free.
I've been using it for a while and it works great!

I second the Skype recomendation. If you have cable or DSL it should be no problem. Dial up won't work.
The voice calls are good (better since they are free) and the video calls are even better.
Its great to see my mom's face and all her expressions!
I have one of the Logitech cameras and it works really well. Definitely worth the investment for all I save in long distance.
