I am starting a rental clean up buisness. I have posted on this site and craiglist.org, also have posted flyers around Pahoa and Hilo, I have contacted several property rental companys with little success. If anyone with knowledge of how to start a[
] buisness has advice on how to better market myself it would be of much help. I do floor buffering, carpet cleaning, painting, minor repairs, general clean up. Thanks so much Sam

Can you refinish hardwood floors? References?
network with some Realtors. I bet they could recommend you after they get to know your work.

Putting an ad in a newspaper and sitting by the phone waiting to ring is not proactive marketing. Go to the source, contact the owners of the vacation rental properties. Once you find out where the properties are you can get the addresses of the owners from the tax records. It certainly is a good idea to network with the property manager real estate companies/agents. Good and reputable companies in your business field are in demand, so it's just a question of how you make yourself known. Make sure you are licensed, set up an informative web site so the potential clients would know what you are offering and make good on your promises. Good luck!

You might make a few fliers and hang them in the community centers and food stores - they all have bulletin boards I think.
I see signs up on the telephone poll at the entrance to Shores and Beaches (Kahakai) and also each entrance into HPP...I read them and have actually called a few...other people do as well.
Stay at it on Craigslist too - that's a good way to get exposure here. You could also rent a booth at Maku'u Market for $15 or $20 and hand out information about your business...(to some that may seem way out there, but there's so much exposure at the markets for a relatively small fee.)
Show your face around and let people know you're serious and professional. Those are great qualities for someone asking for your services again and again.
The Kapoho(s) have bulletin boards, I believe...dunno if Seaview does...
Do you have references?
Get letters of reference and put together a portfolio of properties you have done already. Take a picture before and after (with the owners' permission of course) and collect them. People LOVE before and after pics.
The more thought you put into selling YOURSELF the better your chances of someone taking a chance on you.
Hope I didn't bore ya! LOL![:X]
